After fifty-two years of getting to know us, what have you come to associate most with Anvil Corporation?
Many might think of safety, as we recently celebrated ten million hours without a lost time incident.
Others might refer to quality, as our employees are often praised for their innovation, hard work, and dependability in meeting challenging client expectations.
To us, these are both great answers – to be known for producing operationally excellent designs and doing that work safely is an achievement any engineering and design firm could be proud of.
However, after more than five decades of providing safe and quality designs to our clients, we’ve come to recognize something else across our work: a constant element of sustainability. An equally important, consistently tangible component to how we approach our business as a collective organization.
Anvil was founded by Larry Levorsen in 1971, who believed that “our work, not our words, speak for us. If you do good work, you’ll be rewarded with more work.”
1985 – Much of Anvil’s early involvement with the energy industry can be attributed to our work with oil in Alaska.
“Anvil’s designs have always reflected our priorities, safety, quality, but also sustainability,” Derek Toffer, Vice President of Marketing and Business Development, says. “Sustainability considerations are intrinsic to our engineering process because they lead to better and more efficient designs.”
Anvil highly values our relationships, as well as our responsibility to employees, clients, and neighbors to consider the sustainable implications of our work – rather, to better recognize the sustainable impact we make to the people and communities within which we provide our services.
Anvil plays a central role in working with our clients to find affordable, reliable, responsible, and sustainable solutions.
Our work in the renewable energy industry includes hydrogen processing, renewable diesel and biodiesel production, bio-gas processing, renewable feedstock pretreatment and infrastructure, and solar polysilicon/photovoltaic production. Additional experience includes our work with green hydrogen, a form of hydrogen produced by the electrolysis of water.
“I believe it is important to pursue the unique challenges and opportunities our industry presents with renewable fuels projects,” Matt Hula, Process Engineering Resource Manager, says. “Working in renewable projects, we learn much from technology providers and how they help our client’s future business development needs. This allows us to partner with these providers and our clients to provide solutions related to fuels blending, feedstock pre-treatment, logistics, and renewable feedstock processing. Our engineers are creative problems solvers, and with many of our clients working to increase their renewable footprint, we are well placed to help them achieve their goals.”
Beyond fuels, our team of experts knows what it takes to efficiently treat, remove, or reuse wastewater in our client’s industrial facilities. As these locations produce large volumes of contaminated wastewater streams every day, they require a skilled team of engineers and designers to customize wastewater treatment strategies.
We also have direct experience with water purification – the goal of sustainable water purification is to conserve water and energy using non-toxic, eco-friendly solutions. Our engineers and designers have helped our clients innovate the equipment, facilities, and infrastructure to bring these solutions to market.
Anvil also works with industrial facilities and refineries to help reduce their carbon emissions. Whether vapor recovery or carbon capture units, gas leak detection and repair, selective catalytic reduction, NOx emission reduction, or SO2 controls, our experts help clients significantly reduce emissions.
In addition to helping our clients control emissions, we facilitate more efficient use of their electricity. Our electrical engineering and industrial controls experts design innovative energy efficient systems that help determine where to best allocate energy investments to maintain an efficient and reliable electrical system.

The Cyber Range – the controlled interactive simulation environment constructed on our Bellingham campus in 2022 – was a perfect opportunity for Anvil to influence the future of a budding industry and help build a sustainable new market. This investment was also an investment in the local community and strengthened our ties with local partners Whatcom Community College and NYCTE Center. According to Fortune, by 2025, “there will be an estimated 3.5 million unfilled Cybersecurity jobs across the globe.” The Cyber Range provides local students with the invaluable experience their future employers require, before they even graduate.
Anvil’s Cyber Range was designed to empower young Cybersecurity professionals in our community with the resources and experience they need to be successful in a growing industry.
